The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the year competition is open for entries from 1st of May 2017 and will close on 10th of June 2017 at midnight

Rules


ARTICLE 1: INVITATION

The International Federation of Wildlife and Nature Photography invites our members of each association to participate in the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition, open from 1st of May 2017 at zero hour to 10th of June 2017 at midnight.

The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition is open to all participants officially registered in an IFWP association at the date of entry.

It is an online competition, the participants shall select and upload their images in this site: http://ifwp.pixall.es

All uploaded images must have been taken after 15th of June 2013 at midnight.

There are several categories for different disciplines in nature photography in which photographers of any age can participate and IFWP will announce a Category winner, and 3 Finalist in each category in both Editions, General and Young (born after 1996).

From the category winners the jury will chose the picture to be the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year in both Editions, General and Young (born after 1996).


ARTICLE 2: CATEGORIES

C1 – Landscapes
C2 – Birds
C3 – Mammals
C4 – Invertebrates
C5 – Other Animals
C6 – Vegetation + Fungi
C7 – Artistic and abstract
C8 – Human and Nature
 
CATEGORY 1
This is a nature photography competition, so we expect nature to have an important role in the landscape picture. Underwater landscapes are also accepted.

CATEGORIES 2 to 5
For pictures of wild fauna, including portraits and behaviour, also underwater subjects.
Are NOT accepted photos of pets, domestic animals, trained animal models or animals restricted in their freedom before or during the shot.

The jury may ask for complementary information (location, permits...) for pictures of species appearing in the IUNC Red List of Threatened Species.

CATEGORY 6
For pictures of vegetation, trees, plants, algae... including macro.
Are NOT accepted cultivated plants or fungi and its forms or hybrids. Location might help on the determination.

CATEGORY 7
Images should express the author's personal vision, an artistic and abstract approach to natural subjects.

CATEGORY 8
About the relationship between human beings and nature in both positive and negative ways and its effects. Pictures can be shot either in natural or urban settings.


ARTICLE 3: PARTICIPATION

IFWP CLUB MEMBERSHIP
The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year is open to all individual participants officially registered in an IFWP association at the date of entry.  There is no entry fee.

IMAGES/AUTHORS
All association members, amateurs or professionals alike, abiding to the present rules are welcome to participate.
Members of the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year organising committee and their families cannot participate.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER PARTICIPANT
Each participant may enter a total up to 5 pictures per category.

ARTICLE 5:  IMAGE ENTRIES

Those pictures to be selected must:
-Abide with the IFWP Ethics as published on http://www.ifwp-photo.org/ethic-rules
-Have been taken after 15th of June 2013 at midnight.
-Be entered only once in one category.
-Have NOT already won a prize, or have been credited as mentioned, finalist or highly commended in international competitions before you upload them. This also applies to very similar pictures taken at the same time.

ARTICLE 6: TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year is an online competition, only digital images can be uploaded.

FILE FORMATS
Pictures must be sent as a .jpg file in the highest quality.
– Colour space: sRGB.
– Sharpen very lightly and never interpolate.

SIZE
– Dimension of every picture will be 2600 px on the longest side.
– Maximum file size of every picture will be 4 Mb.


ARTICLE 7: PICTURE PROCESSING

Your uploaded pictures must be very similar to the original RAW file, we only accept processing adjustments that affect to the whole picture, as contrast levels, sharpening, saturation... the picture as it was taken with only minor processing adjustments.

We accept Multiple exposure technique, as long as they come from an unique RAW file and are made directly in the camera, in the same place and at the same moment. Also are accepted global transformations such as black and white and sepia.

No manipulation like layers, adding or removing even small elements, no leveling the horizons... Sensor dust specs must be eliminated from the picture.

In case of doubt please process it again from the original RAW or JPEG file. Pictures with signatures, watermarks or frames will be disqualified. We don´t accept High Dynamic Range (HDR), Focus Stacking (FS) and combining multiple pictures to form a panorama (P).

EXIF/METADATA/IDENTIFICATION
The EXIF information –camera recording of exposure, date– must be present, so metadata data MUST include EXIF data.

CAPTION AND COMMENTS
A short biography of each author a title for the awarded pictures and description the circumstances of the shots will be needed for public relation and exhibitions of the winners later. If you succeed and are awarded please provide them in short time.


ARTICLE 8: FILE NAMING

You can upload the picture with any name, but if your picture is awarded you´ll be requested to provide a title, which is part of an author's creation and do play a part in the way an image is perceived.


ARTICLE 9: ORIGINAL FILES

The original file of selected images will be  asked for by the Jury. Please have them available during the 3 weeks following the closure of the competition.

Original files are the RAW file (NEF, CRW, CR2, PEF...) or the original, untouched .DNG or .JPG provided from the camera.

Any alteration, compression, or modification of a file makes it non-original and hence not acceptable for Jury checking.

ARTICLE 10: DATES

The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition will open from 1st of May 2017 at zero hour to 10th of June 2017 at midnight.

Uploading will be open between these dates after registering on IFWP COMPETION 2017 (http://ifwp.pixall.es)


ARTICLE 11: JURY

The photos will be judged by an experienced International Jury proposed by our Council members of 3 members to be defined.
In case a member of the jury is prevented for any reason, may be replaced by another suitable person at short notice.

The Jury will make final decissions.


ARTICLE 12: SELECTION AND AWARDS

The jury will select a winner and 3 finalists in each category. The jury can abstain from awarding any prize if no entry appears to be deserving enough.

From the category winners the jury will award the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition in the General Edition.

After this selection the jury will complete the selection of awards for the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition in the Young Edition (born after 1996).

All participants enter their pictures with no distinction and occasionally it can happen that a young photographer can be awarded in General Edition and will also be in Young Edition.


ARTICLE 13: PRIZES

All category winners will receive a diploma. All winners will see their images printed and exhibited during the 2017 IFWP Congress and in all possible media to promote the authors and the competition. That includes our website, facebook pages and press contacts.
Thereafter, the exhibit will be made available to all IFWP member associations to be exhibited in their country. The IFWP will do its best to have it exhibited at international Photo Fairs and Festivals.
The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition in General Edition will get a reward of 3.000 euro in photographic gear.
The 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition in Young Edition (born after 1996) will get a reward of 500 euro in photographic gear or books.


ARTICLE14: PHOTOGRAPHERS RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

By entering the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition, each photographer confirms that the photographs entered under his/her name is his/her original work,  that he/she is the sole owner of the copyright and that there are no third party claims.
It is his/her responsibility to obtain releases and consents in written form for publishing, exhibiting and using his/her image if any persons appear in the photograph or if objects in the photograph are subject to the rights of third parties.
The photographer is responsible for obtaining official permits when applicable.


ARTICLE 15: USAGE RIGHTS

Photographers participating authorise by these rules to IFWP the non exclusive right to reproduce awarded photographs in any kind of media in the context of the promotion of the IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition and its related public relations, exhibition and press releases. The photographer´s name will always accompany the picture and he/she will keep the all the author rights.
Prints from exhibitions will be destroyed 3 years after the first public exhibition, or offered to a not-for-profit institution as public hospital or school, public retirement home, etc, with copyright identification, as  voted by the IFWP General Assembly 2012.

ARTICLE 16: POST COMPETITION HANDLING OF FILES

All submissions that have not been awarded will be deleted after the award ceremony.


ARTICLE 17: LIABILITY

The IFWP cannot accept liability or responsibility for any loss or damage to the photographs entered in the competition.


ARTICLE 18: FINAL CLAUSE

Submissions that do not fulfil all of the competition's requirements will be excluded from the 2017 IFWP Photograph of the Year Competition. It is only the Jury's decision to admit or exclude images whose fulfilment of the necessary requirements may be considered ambiguous. Their decision will be final.

Legal proceedings are excluded. By submitting images to the competition, the participant consents to the present competition rules.
